Janet Silvera

Janet Silvera is a veteran Jamaican journalist, philanthropist, and civic leader whose work has shaped national and regional conversations on tourism, development, and community empowerment for nearly three decades. Based in Montego Bay, she is widely regarded as a leading voice on Caribbean tourism, with reporting that bridges local realities and global audiences. A Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of the West Indies (CARIMAC), Silvera has earned multiple Press Association of Jamaica awards and has held key leadership roles, including President of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and the Western Jamaica Media Association. She is Chairman of Women of Western Jamaica (WOWJa), a sisterhood dedicated to empowering women in leadership and enterprise. She also founded the Jill Stewart MoBay City Run, which has raised tens of millions of dollars for tertiary education, and chairs Sarah’s Children, advocating for abused children and the elderly. Frequently invited to speak by regional and international bodies, she is celebrated for her ability to convene, connect, and inspire through journalism as public service.
