Joshua Chamberlain, Special Projects, Alpha School of Music
Joshua Chamberlain manages Special Projects for the Alpha School of Music in Kingston. At Alpha, he created its first music technology curriculum, including the Introduction To Sound System Performance course, and helped to design Alpha’s sound system, Mutt & Jeff Disco. Chamberlain received his PhD in Cultural Studies from the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona where his thesis explored the relationship between sound system participation and youth civic engagement. His research on Jamaican sound system culture has been published by UWI Press, Red Bull Music Academy, Wax Poetics and The Village Voice. Chamberlain is a founding board member of the Jamaica Sound System Federation.
