Mye Laurell

Recording Artist on Reggae/Dancehall/Soul/Pop/Soca
Born Laurell Nurse on November 11th at University Hospital in Kingston Jamaica, and after
attending St Andrew High School for Girls, then migrating to the USA, then having a baby girl,
then separating from her first love, then becoming a Nurse by Profession, Mye Laurell grew into
a diligent singer/songwriter. With a smile Mye Laurell says whenever you repeat her name ‘Mye’
she automatically becomes ‘your’ Laurell. From childhood, singing and dancing has always
played an important part in her life; therapeutically as well for pure pleasure. From childhood it
was always her desire to become a singer. From age 7 her dad, a physics and chemistry
professor who also enjoyed himself at the yearly carnival in Antigua, would sing calypso to her,
take her to piano classes, guitar lessons and she would sing at any school event there was. If
there was a choir, she would be a lead singer. This went on through High School and later on in
early adulthood attending church.
How can one define Mye Laurell style- She calls herself a real-life sultry Jessica Rabbit. She
explains that she sings for the ‘young at heart but mature in mind’. She’s versatile and loves
musical challenges. She stepped into the shallow waters of music many years ago recording a
duet with Delly Ranx which led to a proud moment in her musical journey by winning the New
Jersey Reggae Award for Best Female Singer 2007 held January 2008. Years later she recorded
a remix to the late Gregory Isaacs ‘Night Nurse’ but paused the first time to pursue Nursing
School and the second time to pursue producing the prestigious QORIHC (Queens Of Reggae
Island Honorary Ceremonies) Awards show only 4 months after that recording. Each pause
became a 10-year pause.
The wait is finally over. Becoming a professional singer has never left her intentions. At the last
held QORIHC Awards in 2024, Mye Laurell and Gem Myers opened the show singing Whitney
Houston’s ‘The Greatest Love of All”. She intentionally decided not to put herself in any of the
Awards proceedings previously, as it was all about the honorees, never her. She stayed behind
the scenes and was seldom seen or heard. But speculations started brewing and the honorees
and patrons became increasingly curious about who is ‘Ms. Nurse’ really? Why is she so
interested in entertainment if she is only a Nurse. Why is she so passionate doing this
unyieldingly. When Ms. Nurse and Gem Myers opened at the 2024 Awards show many were
surprised that it was the QORIHC founder who was singing alongside Gem Myers. Gem Myers
gave Mye Laurell the nod of approval to her vocals and it was then that Laurell Nurse decided to
make way to finally release the suppressed ‘Mye Laurell’.
Mye Laurell consulted with Richie Stephens Pot of Gold Production studios and that consultation
bore her newly released Song entitled ‘It’s My House’.Mr. Stephens found similarities in tone to
Diana Ross and chose that song to introduce Mye Laurell to the reggae industry as it was both
mature and sultry. Distributed by VPAL Music, streaming on major musical platforms and an
accompanying music video on YouTube, she is on her way to becoming the recording artist she
was always meant to be.
Mye Laurell says hugs and kisses to all her newly formed fans. Please join her online on
