CJTheChemist, born Steve Rowe, is a Jamaican‐born, New York‐based music producer and
recording artist whose work has become a staple across the global Caribbean diaspora.
Renowned for blending authentic dancehall with contemporary, cross‐genre influences, CJ has
earned his name by skillfully mixing sounds, cultures, and eras into records that move both the
streets and the charts.

CJ’s musical journey began at age 14, where a natural ear for rhythm quickly evolved into a
disciplined craft. He sharpened his production skills working with respected Jamaican
production houses including Heart of Love, Lion Brothers, Garrison Inc., and the late Patrick
Roach. These early years laid the foundation for a career defined by versatility, longevity, and
cultural impact.

His breakthrough came with New York New York for Billboard recording artist Erup on the Lion
Brothers label, produced by Dane “Pun” Findley. In 2009, CJ joined Garrison Inc. Production
alongside his childhood friend Kevin “SK” Smith, building a studio in the Manley Meadows
community. A subsequent move to the United States temporarily slowed his momentum but
ultimately expanded his global reach.

In 2012, CJ re‐emerged with a key placement on Daville’s Krazy Love album, writing and
composing Deh Pon Mi Mind. That success sparked the launch of his imprint, Chemist Records,
through which he released Aidonia’s U Alone and the Love Touch riddim featuring Aidonia,
Govana, Chino McGregor, and Kkrytical.

CJ’s catalog includes culturally impactful releases such as Shokryme’s Gold (featured in Bacardi
x Major Lazer’s Music Liberates campaign), Spice’s viral smash Robot Wine, and Vanessa
Bling’s Bare Clown. In 2021, he reached A‐list producer status with the 1Matik Riddim, featuring
Govana’s 1Matik, Rytikal’s Where I’m From, and Skeng’s Billboard‐charting hit Gvnman Shift,
which dominated the diaspora for over a year.

Continuing his momentum, CJ delivered the NYC Girl(s) riddim in 2025, led by Chronic Law’s
smashing hit NY Girls, with standout performances from Valiant and Armani. In 2026, he
followed with the street‐buzzing single Champagne featuring Dexta Daps and most recently
450, reaffirming his ability to create records that connect globally while maintaining street
credibility.

Driven by passion, precision, and cultural authenticity, CJ The Chemist continues to shape the
sound of modern dancehall while building a legacy that spans generations.
